How do I know if I qualify for disability benefits?
Social Security Disability Video Transcription
The rules for both SSI and SSDI about being disabled are the same. There is no partial disability, and you must be totally disabled. Rules change depending on how old you are as well. If you are under the age of 50, you must be completely unable to work. If you can answer a phone, work as a gate guard, or a booth attendant at a self-service gas station, you are not qualified as disabled.
Once you reach the age of fifty, transferable skills are considered to determine if you qualify for disability benefits. If you cannot do the kind of work you have done in the past, you must have transferable skills to other types of work in order to be determined not disabled. It is important to get a lawyer to help explain the rules and help you determine whether or not you qualify for disability benefits. Don’t waste your time if you don’t qualify.
