How long do I have to pay into Social Security before I can get disability benefits?
Social Security Disability FAQ Video Transcription
If you work and pay social security taxes, you are setting up a retirement system for yourself, but in addition to that, you have a social security disability that you can apply for and get monthly payments, but you must be completely disabled. There are specific rules in order to be eligible. You must have worked and paid social security taxes for at least 20 quarters of the last 40 quarters, or five full years out of the last ten years.
